I was out on the street when she found me. Me and my friend Goro — the two of us just wandering, doing our best to figure out the world on our own. Then this lady spotted us and decided she wasn't going to leave us there.
She owned a restaurant. Not exactly your typical dog rescue situation, I know. But she brought us in and gave us a spot up on the roof. It wasn't forever, but it was safe — and after the street, safe felt like everything. Goro and I spent a few days up there together, watching the world go by, waiting and not really knowing what came next.
Then Furkids Sanctuary came for us.
I think about that lady sometimes. She had a restaurant to run and a life that had nothing to do with us — but she stopped anyway, and she made sure we were okay until someone could properly take us in. That kind of kindness stays with you.
Now I'm at Furkids, settling in, learning what it means to have people in my corner. It's a good feeling — one I wouldn't mind having for the rest of my life.
So if you've got a spot in your home and a little room in your heart, I'm Coal.
